Texas Traditional MSW Admissions Requirements

Students who have not completed a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree will need to enter into a traditional MSW program, which supplies them with all of the necessary training they’ll need to become social workers. They must also commit to two years and complete 60 credits to graduate. The admissions process will involve submitting an application along with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree, typically in psychology or a related area, from a regionally accredited institution
  • Minimum GPA requirement (typically around 3.0)
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement or essay
  • Resume or CV outlining relevant experience
  • Completion of prerequisite courses (such as psychology, sociology, or human services)
  • GRE scores (some programs may waive this requirement)
  • Interview (some programs may require an interview as part of the application process)
  • Background check and/or fingerprinting

Texas Advanced-Standing MSW Admissions Requirements

If you’re looking for a fast-tracked option, the Advanced-Standing MSW program is available for students who have graduated from a BSW program and have maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher.
