APA-accredited, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater offers a Counseling Psychology doctor program, providing excellent student-centered training, utilizing the scientist-practitioner model of training with a strong focus on social justice and multiculturalism.
Applicants with bachelor’s or master’s degrees are encouraged to apply to enter the Ph.D. program. It takes a minimum of 4 years to complete the program if the applicant holds a master’s degree, and 5 years with a bachelor’s. Students entering with a bachelor’s degree are required to complete a year of prerequisite master’s level counseling courses at OSU and earn a MS in Educational Psychology.

Tuition ranges from $178 per credit hour for in-state students to $700 per credit hour for out-of-state students—this rate does not include additional university costs or its associated fees. The Counseling Psychology program has been successful in supporting all of the doctoral students with assistantships that cover part or all tuition, including a monthly stipend and/or health insurance coverage. Other financial aid assistance is available in the form of fellowships, scholarships, grants, and student loans.
Students are required to follow an organized sequence of study, including academic coursework in general psychology, counseling psychology, and research, along with practicum experiences, as well as a comprehensive examination, a doctoral dissertation, and a pre-doctoral internship to fulfill the degree requirements. Students must maintain an A or B average, anything lower than a C must be retaken.
