Accredited by the American Psychological Association since 2002, the School of Education at Howard University offers a PhD program in Counseling Psychology designed to educate and train counseling psychologists using the scientist-practitioner philosophy, encouraging students to identify and use culturally relevant prevention and intervention strategies, focusing on the client’s optimum strengths. The program provides education in the role of therapist, researcher, consultant, supervisor, and educator, emphasizing critical thinking and analyzing and solving problems.

The total cost for full-time enrollment in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program is around $15,000 per semester. Students are eligible to receive funding through the graduate school and through the School of Education via a part-time assistantship, including tuition remission and yearly stipend. Coursework includes a total of 117 credit hours of research and statistics, intervention, psychology core, supervised training, and research and dissertation credits.
