Department of Education and Human Services - Counseling Psychology (PhD)

The PhD Counseling Psychology program in the College of Education at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, trains students in the competencies necessary to deliver mental health services to multicultural client populations, respecting race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, spirituality, age, religion, and socioeconomic status. It’s fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. Training adheres to the scientist-practitioner model, presuming skillful and professional practice, utilizing sound principles and models of psychological science and social justice.

The application deadline for the Ph.D. program is January 1st and the fee is $65.00. The program only accepts 4 to 6 doctoral students each year, and those who are not accepted are invited to enroll in the master’s program.

If the student has completed the master’s degree program, he or she can attain their PhD in 5 years—without the master’s program, the degree can be attained in 6 years. On top of general counseling and psychology core courses, the student must complete a total of 130 credits, including Advanced Applications in Counseling, Advanced Seminar, Apprenticeship, Research Methods, and Practicum, as well as complete an internship, qualifying project, and dissertation.

Financial aid is available as well as graduate assistantships and tuition support.
