Accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1983, the College of Education at the University of Kentucky in Lexington offers a Counseling Psychology Ph.D. committed to training students to assume emerging diverse roles and responsibilities related to advancing a social justice and multicultural agenda, and applying skills in psychology that facilitate the development of a broad range of scientific, interpersonal, and leadership competencies, utilizing the scientist-practitioner model of learning.
The doctoral program generally takes 6 years of full-time study to complete when entering with a master’s degree.Students entering with a bachelor’s degree will complete the master’s degree requirements, adding a year to the program. An additional year is spent in full-time pre-doctoral internship.

The Counseling Psychology program only accepts about 8 students each year. The application deadline is December 1st for the following fall semester.
Full-time tuition for the first year of the graduate program costs about $5,400 for in-state students and $11,400 for out-of-state students. Graduate, research, and teaching assistantships are available to students who desire assistance. A full-time assistantship is about 20 hours per week of work for the graduate, and it is accompanied by a full tuition reimbursement, health insurance, and a stipend. Addition funding is available, including scholarships, grants, and student loans.
